A van carrying at least part of Holy Cross’ women’s rowing crew was involved in a horrific car crash in Vero Beach this morning.

One dead (a rower from Uxbridge), 11 hospitalized, with seven of them sustaining serious or life-threatening injuries.

Another van from HC was not involved in the crash.

My daughter played AAU hoop with one of these kids….and I’m hearing the kid got hurt bad. Hope it’s not true or at least not as bad as described.

Pitchers and catchers report in 5 or 6 weeks seems like the Astros and Red Sox need to get someone rather quickly

Astros aren’t kidding around, they interviewed Showalter yesterday per Rosenthal.

The Sox should make Remy the manager but only for home games. Eck can manage road games and Salty can fill in as needed. Simple really, and it would placate the fan base.

    Right…

The Los Angeles City Council is expected to vote within the next week on a resolution urging Major League Baseball to recall the championship trophies presented to the Houston Astros in 2017 and the Boston Red Sox in 2018 “and award them to the Los Angeles Dodgers.”

Saw that with Showalter.  Coffee sprayed everywhere.  How does this fucking guy keep getting jobs?  Baffling.

Mendoza came out with the blame Fiers for speaking up approach, which job is that angling for?

The day or so before the Astros sentence was handed down you had Cody Bellinger with his ‘well we did it the right way’ comments then CC Safatsia saying the Yankees should have won the World Series in ’17.  Particularly with Bellinger, he was horrible in both post seasons.  Had nothing to do with stealing signs.  Brutal in ’17 save for one of the games in Houston.  Struck out a ridiculous amount of times.  20+.  In ’18 he was being platooned whenever a lefty was on the mound.  Even got benched in the season for supposed lack of hustle.  Regardless there were plenty of things that were in your control and you simply had bad series.  Not the first player to have that happen.  But zip it.  The Yankees scored 1 friggin’ run in Games 6 and 7.  3 hits in Game 7.  Sign stealing had nothing to do with that.

Yeah, those kind of things always work. Maybe the council should vote on a resolution to have a little dignity.

Setting herself up as a keep quiet company person, so that will sit well with the Mets when they get stuck firing Beltran.  If they don’t, then she’s appealing to other front offices.  Also, she hates whistleblowers so the players/coaches/front office can harass and hire whoever and she won’t say a word.  Again, very appealing.

Heard something interesting on local radio the other day.  Tyler Polumbus is one of the new afternoon drive guys, Tom Nalen up and moved back to Mass, and they were talking about the Broncos recent and sudden swap out of offensive coordinators, Rick Scangerello fired and Pat Shurmur hired.  Polumbus talked about how it was likely that Vic Fangio couldn’t spend more time ‘coaching’ the OC, as he was vocal at times about the play calling and getting more aggressive.  Also that Fangio has his own job to worry about, so some of the changes are made for self preservation.  He then talked about how when he was playing for the Broncos under McDaniels that one of McDaniels’s biggest issues was that he had to spend so much time coaching coaches.  Like he’d have to go to the o line meetings for example.  Polumbus said the o line ‘room’ was an absolute shitshow so McDaniels then had to spend time there.  Around here you mostly here people scoff at McDaniels as some dictator that deceptively took advantage of an enfeebled Pat Bowlen, so it was interesting to hear a player who played for him here talk a bit about what it was like.  Took no shots even with the other clown trying to goad him in to doing so.  Also had me thinking about McDaniels and what job he would or wouldn’t take.  Like if he thinks he can’t get the right staff together and has to spend too much time on it, he’s learned his lesson and will take a pass.

    Beltran out.

Maybe I’m crazy but this is ridiculous.  Maybe the problem is that nothing changes with baseball.  They still call pitches the same way.  Each fucking pitch there’s the catcher flashing signs.  And the signs are still the same.  I dunno, maybe try something different after a hundred fucking years?  Maybe script some pitches the first turn through the lineup, like football started scripting the first 15 or so plays in the ’90s.  I get that it’s a bit different in that the catcher has to know what’s coming with absolute certainty or if a pitcher finds that they don’t have a certain pitch going, but christ try something.  You hang your signs out for the whole world to see, hell tv zooms in on the catcher so the fucking viewers know what’s coming, the analysts talk about it in game.  ‘Looks like a slider down and away coming’ or ‘So and so calling for a high fastball.’  The signs are everywhere.  And everyone is stealing them, why do catchers go out to the mound and change which sign is the real one?  Because they know everyone can fucking see.

Why not spend your time on some utterly useless and symbolic gesture versus doing something about all those tents and people shitting in the streets?

Because he’s too nuts or because he’s getting a multiyear ban and won’t make Rosenhaus any money?

It’s too bad LoveKlemko is no longer with us. I was looking forward to his follow up piece on AB, where he explores how all of Brown’s bad behavior was covered up in Pittsburgh for 9 years.

People here are legit flat out ANGRY and claiming that MLB should vacate both TITALS and give them to the Dodgers. Good luck with that. I cant imagine that ever cracking the top 1000 things going on in my life that I would ever get upset over.

I love that it’s the Yankees and Dodgers fanbases that are getting the most butthurt over this cheating scandal. I am sure their houses aren’t made of glass.

Baseball is so fucked up.  There isn’t any rule against stealing signs.  In fact it’s the ‘unwritten rule’ that places the burden upon the team flashing signs to do whatever to make it more difficult to be able to break the code so to speak.  You just can’t use electronics to communicate.  What the fuck, if you can figure out the signs why can’t you communicate them?  What’s the point of not being able to do so?

It’s not the sign stealing that’s the issue. It’s the improper use of the Electronics where everyone is fucked.

can’t teams come up with a better way to call a game? Football found a way to do it.

Celtics made the score look good by the end — not a small feat on the second night of a back-to-back — but the loss to the Bucks was another example of why the C’s are just lagging behind everyone else.

Almost cutting the lead to 1 from 26 or whatever without Brown means they stand no chance against everyone else?
