Do any of these sportswriter-pricks ever stop to think that, if/when the Pats, Red Sox, Celts and Bruins start losing again or being consistently mediocre again — the Pats especially — their entire industry will essentially disappear COMPLETELY? This isn’t 1957, when we all went to the pub in our scally-caps to bathe in Dave Egan’s latest excoriation of Ted Williams and his spitting escapades, or maybe another hack floating the rumor that the Sainted Frank Leahy may be coming back to Chestnut Hill to coach the BC Eagles.
If the Pats fall, and to a lesser extent the other local pro teams, there will be one less reason to watch NBCS Boston, or pick up the Globe, which runs a special print section called SCORE every Monday … because the Pats are so successful and popular!
People will watch the Premier League or do something else entirely with their time and attention/affection. And they won’t need the local yokel hacks to tell them what they’re watching. (They’re not even doing that now.)
