ESPN owns some of the bowl games and broadcasts almost every one. They provide good programming during a dead period. Sponsors chip in and schools have to agree to purchase a bunch of tickets. A ton of money slopping around.

No doubt why the playoffs haven’t killed the bowls, nor will expanding to 8 (we can only hope) will do them in either.

The bowls that perhaps suffer are the bigger ones because there is disappointment when the fifth or sixth ranked team is left out of the tournament (so not as many people from, say, Brohio State go). Going to 8 will make 4 other cities very pleased I’m sure.

Looks like we’ll have Brother John to kick around at least another year.

@Ravens: We’re working on an extension for Head Coach John Harbaugh, whose contract was set to expire after the 2019 season.

On Wednesday they said he had the flu. Nothing to fool around with when you are age 84 or thereabouts.

(edit) The Celtics were hideous last night for about 18-20 minutes. Went from ahead 10-1 to behind 58-32. That’s a 35 point swing.
They shaved 10 points off that lead in the next 2-3 minutes and the rest of the game was dead even.

These late game teams do not look good.  Is everyone worn out? Goodell will probably impose an 18 game schedule for the good of the game on Monday.

Not sure if she’s the one in the preview ads tonight but worth the view.

10 straight running plays by the Patriots. They’re trying to phase out Brady, Mike. They are!

They can only score by running caller!  They’re toast, they can’t throw the ball!!!

It’s of course very unlikely to happen, but if this team could somehow even make the Super Bowl playing good defense and winning ugly games 12-6 with like one play a game from Gronk and Edelman it’d be glorious how much it’d piss off everyone.

And now, Gene Steratore will tell us that it’s not a TD because, at some point during the tackle, Edelman believed he was down.

Huh, Stevan Ridley with the nut crushing fumble.  That’s a surprise.

Teams that beat the Pats are 0-5 the following week.

The Steeler excuses should be glorious.

That spectacular shitting of the bed is likely to be Ridley’s last NFL carry. Seems fitting

All 5 teams may miss the playoffs, right? And 4 of those teams won 9 games or more last year.

At least he achieved some sort of career redeeming revenge last week with, what, 1 carry on 6 snaps.

What the hell were they doing anyway? They absolutely riddled the Saints secondary with passes, went down the field three times in a row for touchdowns…then you hand it off to your FOURTH STRING running back? And the play went for a loss fumble or no fumble.

I believe if Indy beats Tennessee and Baltimore wins; then, yes. A real oddity I would say. The Pats would have 3 wins vs the other 5 playoff teams, having not played LAC or Baltimore.

All these teams fucking blow.  Every team is just as likely to step on their dicks as to put up 45 and pitch a shutout every week.

And the coaching.  All these shitheads like Marv and Koetter and Brother John and Dumbass Doug Fucking Marrone all coming back next year.  Riverboat Ron.  Whoever coaches the Cardinals.  Wilk. Probably all coming back because why bother getting a new coach.  They all suck ass anyhow makes no difference who you trot out there anymore.  And no one will even try with guys like Swinney or Smart.  Fuck at least try.  So what if it doesn’t work out at least you try to get better.

They also have wins vs. Chicago and Minnesota.

Nothing encapsulates the Steelers better than a guy celebrating when in fact he was short on a pivotal 4th down fake punt.
