Getting it started … today Jolly Old Nick tells us that the 2018 Red Sox already have “a different feeling” in the clubhouse compared to last year’s collection of depressives and malcontents, led by the obviously-tapped-out John Farrell …

apropos of nothing, I was reading an article about Carmelo and was reminded that Nick Collison was still in the league.  I went to his B-ref page and was shocked- he’s played his entire (14 year) career for one franchise, SEA/OKC.  As it is only 229 players total in the history of the league have played at least 14 seasons. I can’t think of anyone who’s had a career like that- only one team, almost always no more than a role player (hasn’t played more than 20mpg since 2012).  176 total minutes played the last two seasons.  Pretty sweet gig.

I was prepared to write a forgettable post about the Wickersham story and also take a shot at John Mara, but I can’t follow that. I’ll wait an hour or two.

52 is even with 42 as the worst sports loss of my life. I could write 20 pages single spaced on it.

If Gronkowski retires, and cites to the atmosphere in NE as a big part of it, I’m going to ask someone to drain the Mystic so I can jump off the Tobin with guarantees.

Imagine watching the combine right now? How is that possible? They may win another Super Bowl but it’s really fucking hard. Like going the newspaper route. FUCK.

It took until mid-late morning yesterday for that clip of TEC’s to even begin making the rounds.

The reach of Boston Sports Tonight is non-existent, except for the people who are in that filthy business.

You think it’s hard now? Wait until they change the rules and NE has to play its tomato can East opponents only once a season. Away.

Unless you’re watching a Celtics game, then it’s enough commercials to embarrass Geico.  “This is a big win for this team” Oh, shit! With takez like that I definitely have to tune in! :weei:

My favorite is the one where the blonde lady is delivering some vapid nonsense and you can see Holley and the non-TEC guy (Carreras?) battling “lookathereyeslookathereyesdon’tlookathertitsdontlookathertitsohmygoodlookatthosetits”

Typically I can at least move on to free agency or the draft.  Don’t care about any of it and my overall hatred of the league and the product itself might finally be outweighing the joy I’ve gotten out of the Patriots.  What a shitty existence.

True, but they did, and I didn’t know about 52 back then.  So 42 has become a little easier to stomach, and 52 was a fucking nightmare.

A lot of it is the sheer saturation of the NFL experience and takez and twitter, etc. Pats won 3 out of 4 and then everyone came out of the wood work discrediting it.  That didn’t ruin the experience for me, obviously, but they were on the verge of doing it again with nothing that could discredit it.

I didn’t get the feeling they weren’t going to win again after 42.  Brady was 30, they re-signed Moss in free agency and they had a top 10 pick in the upcoming draft.  There was shit to look forward to or be interested in in March and April.  I guess the biggest question is Solder and I can’t get that interested in what they do picking 31 just yet.

Partnerships, podcasts, PPV, merch, satelllite. None on their own are a business in the growth sense but everything collectively, I’d speculate they aren’t losing money (which is crazy given the costs they’ve incurred) and that 15 million additional Chernin dumped in isn’t something where they are looking at incremental growth. They are valued at 100M and I think they can easily get that to three times that.

I’ve never been a fan of Barstool other than thinking Portnoy has a good business brain but the inexplicable hires they’ve made post acquisition are what would bug me if I was a fan of the site. Who gives a fuck about any of these talentless people?

If Gronk shows up to OTA’s will we get? “I was right at the time.”

The Wickersham story, which came out in early January, made no mention of Gronkowski’s discontent. The main focus was on Kraft, Belichick and Brady, but you’d think one of those unnamed sources might have mentioned to Seth the #2 player in terms of importance was also unhappy. Seems like kind of big thing to have missed.

I was going to take John Mara to task for weighing in on the catch rule until I realized he’s on the Competition Committee, so it’s not out of character for him to comment on things the CC is looking at. I do wonder, though, if Kraft’s personality/behavior with the other owners* was one of the reasons why his team was penalized so severely in 2008 and 2015, how do those guys stand Mara. He seems like the kind of person people would want to take down a peg or two.

One thing I’m tired of reading with all of the catch talk is people bitching about the length of the reviews. There’s always someone saying that they should cap the review time at a minute or something like that. If the goal is to get the call right, they can take 2 or 3 minutes for all I care. With these people who want the review time limited or the replays on looked at in real time, what’s their hurry? They’re either sitting in the stands, sitting at a bar or sitting on their couch at home. If you don’t want your time wasted during a football game, don’t watch football.

*Am I imagining this? I thought there was some talk that Kraft rubbed people the wrong way after his team won 3 out of 4 SBs.
