Buckley is literally the only person alive who cares about pointless debates like this: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/2017/04/buckley_does_theo_epstein_belong_to_boston_or_chicago_now

Buckley’s completely useless. Hot sportz take after lazy hot sportz take. So fucking ponderous.

One of the worst Wednesdays in the history of ESPN began early in the morning East Coast time when staffers were informed via telephone by management that they were losing their jobs. The management read prepared statements. There were HR people on speakerphones listening in. “Cold as ice,” said one ESPN-er who lost her job. “F—in horrible,” said another longtime ESPN staffer.

Pretty much how every single mass layoff in the history of business goes down either at campus or offsite. They want management reading prepared statements so they don’t say something they aren’t supposed to say. HR people are present, typically to either give you paperwork or tell you paperwork is on the way, and answer any immediate questions with regard to benefits. It’s not supposed to be fun.

I’ve been through two over the years where they had “security” types posted on the floor to “assist” people out who may not wish to go.

I was at a company where everyone knew a big one was coming but not when. One Monday an email goes out that on Tuesday(the next day) the elevators were being worked on and your badge would not work. You would have to check into security to get in. Subtle.

So to all you ESPN folks, that’s how you make it fun! Have security swipe your badge in the lobby while you wait to see red or green! Green up the elevator and into all your new responsibility you’ve picked up or red it’s into the executioner in a conference room off the lobby? Waiting in line with other folks who showed up when you did. Those people would have begged for a private phone call.

Possible BB wants to see how Brissett progressss thru OTAs and into camp and then considers trading JG? What did Philly get for Bradford? It can still be done in August. Not saying I want that, I think JG is excellent, but it’s a possible option.

Guess I’m just thinking if the best you’ll get is a pick in 2018, no need to trade him until then.

I worked at a place where they were doing a really big layoff, 25%.  Same thing with the badges, if they worked, go right on up.  If not, there’s a meeting in the conference room you need to be at.  Odd thing was they let all the finance/treasury/accounting people through, so they thought they were safe, but then if they didn’t have access to banking or other stuff, you need to hit that meeting.  Oh, and you can leave your laptop right where it is.  I think they gave you an option, you could go back to your office and have 15 minutes to clear out or leave and we’ll box/courier everything to you.  The chain bar/restaurant around the corner had a line at 10AM.

I must have missed Bob Hohler’s audit of Theo and Brother of Theo’s Charity in today’s Globe?

Management could at least of had the decency to work the layoffs into quirky Sportscenter commercials. Have Gronk go around spiking people. The Syracuse Orange helping alumni to their cars with boxes of personal stuff. You know, make it fun for everybody!

Mort finds a red tag hanging in his locker.  He goes to an office.

“Coach, you wanted to see me?”

Bill Belichick is behind the desk. He swivels around while not looking up from his plate of meatloaf.

“Mort. You know this is the worst part of my job. Close the door.”

    [Chiron says: “This is Sportscenter”]

I’m surprised that Game 3 against Cleveland didn’t put him in the grave.

I love how (usually) picking one guy is  “stocking up.”

ESPN could have had the Turk going around collecting badges and computers.

Stood idle? Trading for Brandin Cooks and signing Stephon Gilmore and Mike Gillislee is standing idle? What a fucking tool.

Yes, they “stood idle” by picking up a number 1 receiver that is still young and has a proven NFL track record, simpleton.

Probably mentioned this before, but a friend of mine got laid off at a job with a company car, and his boss had to drive him home 45 mins so she could take the car back. Awkward!

My 2-cents on RIF Friday. I’ve always worked for small (<100, usually less than 50 employee) companies. All these companies have had their fair shares of  ups and their downs. As a result nothing sends a chill down my spine like being told that there will be a previously unannounced  company meeting in 15 minutes. Surprise company meeting always mean the shit will hit the fan or, more likely already has and they just need a few minutes to walk 40% of your co-workers out the door. :ozzy:

I worked at a place where there was a company outing where we were getting bused to a park for a cookout.

There were 2 different colored bus tickets and they were very carefully checking who got on the first wave of buses.

Turns out there was no second wave of buses — about half the company was escorted back into the building a few at a time to pack their stuff and sign their paperwork.

Stood idle is great.  They didn’t have a pick.  What were they supposed to do, bum rush the stage?

Sign Gilmore and Guy, trade for Ealy, resign Hightower and Harmon.  They didn’t do anything!

Why would you even take that ride? Call me a cab instead.
