Congratulations to the USWNT and America as a whole.

    Dodgers come to town Friday.

I think it was Seth Greenberg who referenced this during the C’s summer league game but Zion was gassed very quickly in his game.  No doubt he’s been on the banquet circuit for a couple months but he’s gonna need to get his fitness level up if he’s gonna be impactful as a rookie.  Yabusele looked terrible he can’t be long for the roster.  He should be dominating Summer League at this point.  Carsen Edwards might have a little Vinnie Johnson in him, he’ll be fun to watch.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if Yabusele pulled a Ralph Malph this past season where they told him to go in and he went to rip off his sweats and he was in street clothes.  He was already 260 when they drafted him, his ass alone must be 185.  Guy was the 16th overall pick 2 years ago, playing in summer league at this point isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of his future.

I certainly don’t understand the culture of watching/following players celebrating a win. It’s great that the USWNT won but I don’t care what they do afterwards. Show a shot of them spraying champagne and move on.

My wife is fascinated by celebrations.  Will watch any team or individual celebrate anything.  When I ask why she’s watching she’ll say ‘well if it was the Patriots winning the Super Bowl you’d watch!’  Yeah, no shit, I closely follow the team.  Why would I watch a Serena Williams trophy presentation for example, or the Raptors trophy presentation?  I don’t care enough.  Game’s over, I’m out.  I watched the match yesterday, it ended, I went on with my day.  I thought it was funny that FS1 said after the Gold Cup ‘well since Mexico won we won’t be showing the trophy presentation.’

Yabusele & Hayward (plus picks presumably) for Westbrook works in the Real GM trade checker.  Just saying.

 Tatum and Brown will develop nicely playing with Westbrook  And when his athleticism starts to slip, he will be fucking useless because he can’t shoot

Keep Westbrook away from my favorite team please.

Just signed Walker to a max deal so I’m way past all set with Westbrook.  I’m all for moving Hayward though.

I must have slept on the Suns dumping Josh Jackson in some garbage trade with Memphis.  If memory serves that asshole made it sound like he tanked his Celtics pre draft workout because he didn’t want to be drafted by them.  What a loser.

Grant Williams is going to get an awful lot of “nifty” comments on his play from Tommy.

I can’t decide if he’s Eddie Haskell or really sincere because he says the “right” thing over and over.    Good article in the Athletic about how he’s positioning himself to be a “glue guy” in the mold of a PJ Tucker or Draymond.

Looks like the Celtics may have a few guys who can play.

I think it’s authentic.  He had me last weekend when he admitted he needed to work on his 3 point shot for the good of the team.

I think it’s a big deal when Brad Stevens, more than once, points out how smart he plays. His YouTube real is like a hustle wet dream.

NFLN ran “The Two Bills” again the other night.  Parcells looks weird. He sits like he’s already been embalmed, and with the weight he’s lost, his face is all teeth. Very strange. Also, in many clips from his younger days, he talked with a permanent sneer.  One old snippet of Belichick, early 1980s with the Giants, had him rocking a porn stache.

The interviews with Groh and other members of Parcells’ 1999 Jets’ staff indicated that Tuna’s decision to retire after Week 17 totally blindsided them. Also, they mentioned Parcells disappearing into his office holding a fax late after the Jets’ last game. It was undoubtedly the fax from Kraft notifying the Jets that the Patriots had fired Carroll and sought permission to negotiate with Belichick — a fax that the Jets claimed they never received.

Apparently the Suns were desperate to get rid of him.  And not for his on court performance, although he sucked so far.

I thought the the Jets simply turned down their request.  I remember James’s statement something like we faxed our request to the Jets to speak with Belichick about our vacant head coaching position.  They refused our request, which was within their rights.  We’re moving on.  I didn’t remember the Jets saying they never got it?  But Christ that was 20 years ago.

The timing of his stepping down was odd, namely because there was no indication he was stepping aside and that was the season that they had high hopes but those fizzled in week 1 when Testaverde blew out his Achilles.  So expectations were they were going to be pretty good in ’00.

That gunt of his is something else.  I worked with a guy that had heart issues and he had an odd shaped pear body as well, like he was skin and bones to about his pants then a gunt.  Had a pretty serious heart attack at one point, lost track of him after that.

Of course the irony with Groh is that he coached the 1 season then out of nowhere left to take a college job at Virginia.

Forgot about Fatty’s column yesterday. Which is apropos, as guest Chris Ballard’s column is entirely forgettable.

One of the things I do on Sundays to press pause and appreciate the journey is to take a walk around the field. I don’t take a single day for granted in this league; we only get 16 competition days. I like to take it all in, from the noises, the smells—especially playing on grass in an outdoor stadium—and the freshness of a new day and new hope.

Yawn. Kind of like an even more vanilla Mike Lombardi.

On Sundays I like to unplug, take a walk around the lots…smell the stale Miller and Piss, take in the sights and sounds.
