Wtf? I’ve never seen a call like that before. Holding on a cb on a draw play up the middle?

Some BS calls at the end but I’m not as mad as I’m perplexed by the defense. If they can improve to mediocre they’ll be fine (to the AFCC appearance level) but there are few signs of that.
Yeah. It’s pretty bad when you’re plus two on the turnovers, your offense scores 30 at home and you still lose. It makes no sense that the top scoring defense last year has turned into the League worst with very few personnel changes. I don’t get it.October 1, 2017 at 5:03 pm #110284October 1, 2017 at 5:06 pm #110285

Today on “Ruining the Game with Zo,” I was listening to the sequence where Brady was knocked down on a third down play, was favoring his shoulder when he got up, then there was the interference penalty against NE on the punt.
Both Zolak and Socci noted that Brady was holding his left arm tight to his body as he left the field. Allen punts to Carolina, it sounds like the ball hit the Panthers return man was recovered by NE, but there’s also a penalty. In the middle of this, where the listener is wondering, do the Patriots have the ball? Who was the penalty on? Was it a good call or bad call? Zolak says “Jimmy’s got his helmet in his right hand.” I’m wondering what that has to do with the punt and is Jimmy someone on the field for NE or Carolina before I realize he’s talking about Garropolo. Sure, it’s a big deal if Brady is hurt and his back up is coming in, but it was still unclear about what was going on with the punt. Plus, if the penalty is against the Patriots, the NE offense is staying on the sidelines and there will be plenty of time to discuss the injury and QB situation.
The officials announce the penalty is on NE and Socci starts reading some station identification info before they go to a break, but you can hear a huge groan from the fans as the replay shows it was a questionable call. Socci is in the middle of his copy, so he can’t deviate or share any reaction. All you get from Zolak is an incredulous “What?!?” and then they go to a commercial break. I understand time was limited, but saying “What” doesn’t tell the listener anything. He could have fit in a “Bad call” or something brief to let you know that, when it looked like the Patriots might have recovered a muffed punt, a questionable penalty gave the ball back to Carolina.October 1, 2017 at 5:59 pm #110287

Bill only knows if Gilmore is in fact the cause of this dysfunctional defense, but if he is a bust in Bills eyes, I wonder if he’d consider exiling him off to Cleveland like the Texans did Osweiler. Gilmore and a 4th round pick for your #3 corner. Then throw money at Butler.
I have absolutely no idea if most of this shit is Gilmore’s fault. He’s the only new guy back there, so it’s natural to wonder. But I’m not taking meathead Zo’s word for it, that’s for sure.
But seeing the busted coverages and mental mistakes in person looks really bad. Bill certainly knows who’s responsible. We’ll see how it pans out, as always.
I will say this, though: It’s possible for the Sportsradio morons and Twitter scumbags to be just as bad as they’ve always been, and for BB to have made an expensive mistake. Both things can be true at the same time. It happens. We have to leave open the possibility that the asshole usual suspects can be right by accident. Bill has had years where the makeup of the roster wasn’t to his liking, and the team didn’t perform up to their talent level. Yeah, mentioning ’09 is a cliche, but Bill was clearly frustrated that year to the point where guys who didn’t “get it” had to be shown the door. We’ll see.October 1, 2017 at 8:45 pm #110291

Came across this randomly on YouTube last night. Troy Aikman speaking candidly on how terrible a coach Barry Switzer was, and how it led to the deterioration of the Cowboys dynasty.

Gilmore appears to have been bad the first 4 games. That doesn’t make him a bust or a mistake.
No, not yet.
But they’ve allowed a lot of yards and points before and everyone yelled about it, then it got fixed.
True. It’s also true that some FA guys just don’t work, and some years the team just isn’t good enough in one way or another. It happens. There are 31 other teams and you can’t be SB champs every time, even with the best staff in the League. We’re spoiled in that way. I don’t know how the season will shake out. I know BB knows a lot more than I do, so I’m not in a rush to crucify people. But mental errors that cost you games is troubling, because the Patriots don’t usually do that. Their reputation has always been the opposite. Again, we’ll see.October 1, 2017 at 9:20 pm #110296October 1, 2017 at 9:21 pm #110297October 1, 2017 at 9:45 pm #110298
