Heh. Some of the timelines definitely seem skewed at times. Someone asked Koppelman on his pre-show twitter Q/A…”When does Axe spend time with his kids?” and Koppelman replied “When the show is off the air”.

Did they pinch Hall or was he tipped off and bolted?

I thought Hall bolted. That guy seemed to know everything and be in a million places all at once. Just odd he wouldn’t have given Axe the heads up if he really did bolt but would his phone be disco’d if they had pinched him? I’ve been pinched. My phone was just turned off so the battery wouldn’t die which was nice of them. :)

You would think to be consistent with the other things in the episode that Hall’s phone would be kept on so they’d have another way of finding Axe.    But, you’re right, he could have called or texted him before he shitcanned the phone.

Amazing, 2 1/2 seasons of buildup all worth it.

As satisfying as that was,  I don’t know what the “bingo” was from the previous episode. I missed how Kim, Chuck and Howard’s hallway meeting manifested itself in Jimmy and Kim’s strategy.

Me neither. Looking back at it the only info she got from them is that they were going to play the tape.

Maybe Jimmy would have accepted a suspension but a total disbarment would require him to escalate and bring up Chuck’s mental state?

I think it had to do with the idea of entrapment – making a copy of the tape lends further credence to the idea that Chuck was baiting Jimmy into destroying the tape knowing full well he had a backup copy.  Make no mistake the tape will be played confirmed to Kim that there was a copy of it.

I guess I was expecting a payoff of that. Like Kim secretly taping Chuck’s admission of the second tape (karmic justice for Chuck’s secret taping). Or that Huell’s sticky fingers would swap out the tape, and we’d be hearing God knows what when they played it at the hearing. Whether they had confirmation of the duplicate or not, weren’t they going to prepare as though it existed?

Definitely a couple Gilligan nods to A Few Good Men and The Caine Mutiny.

Entrapment is too easy/obvious, IMO. I mean, that works, but the more Gilliganian resolution is more clever than that. The IDEA is to make Chuck look nuts, right? Every step they took was to get to that point in court. The existence of the copy is a critical piece – “Your honor, my brother is nuts as you can clearly see based on his behavior here, I often tell him things to make him feel better. Clearly the mistake he made with Mesa Verde is an unfortunate one precipitated by his deteriorating mental state and my confession to him was merely a way to make him feel better.”

The actor who plays Huell really slimmed down, but Huell as a character really fattens up.

I loved how every genuine thing Jimmy did – the billboard fall, the Chicago Sunroof, the nine-year-old pilfering from the cash register  – sounded so nuts out of Chuck’s mouth.

The super close-up shot of his face really emphasizes it.

Kinda wished Chuck explicitly told Jimmy that he wasn’t going to go full Col. Jessep.

Does she need to tape him admitting a second tape?  He already claimed a destroyed tape as part of the damages.

I was thinking from Kim’s perspective she might be trying to go the entrapment angle, hence Bingo.  Jimmy was never going that route.  Kim wasn’t in on the Huell operation or the ex wife from what I could tell, and she might have gone with the entrapment in her questioning of Chuck if she had handled it.

I hadn’t worked out exactly what it was, but my thinking was the significant part was Chuck saying the tape Jimmy destroyed wasn’t the original. It would be  reasonable to the hearing board that Chuck had made copies of the confession tape, for the sake of protecting  evidence. But his smug boast that the original tape will be played was an admission of the entrapment,  that Jimmy’s breaking and entering and destruction of property were fully provoked. But I didn’t know if that mattered, because he still broke in, and he still destroyed the property.

I’ll apologize a thousand times if I’m wrong but the entrapment angle at this point makes everything else extraneous and if we know anything about these writers, they would not waste the amount of time they have on something like that. It just doesn’t make sense and it’s too hard to explain – at the very least it requires the viewer to thread the needle, logically.

Look, you’re right. The “make Chuck look nuts” strategy is enough. It’s just that “bingo” is a loose thread; it promised more than it delivered.

Well now we know why VM Varga has such shitty looking teeth.   I hope that actor didn’t have to do more than one take of heaving his guts out, because it sure looked real.

The matter of factly so that’s the guy I was talking about was great.

What a horrible way to get to Australia.  And did Captain Aceveda hang in Tasmania waiting for them?

That might have been the weirdest part.

Hey, guy we’ve never seen on this show before, you’ve got a plane and connections, how about taking us to Australia immediately with very few questions asked?
