Upon first review that was a huge pile of crap. Horrible. The entire pacing of this (as well as last) season is just awful. Jaime leaving Brienne to go back to Cersei? Fine. But it happens over 12 minutes instead of 3 episodes. And once he gets captured couldn’t he just say “Hey guys, I’m here to help you in your fight since WE JUST FOUGHT TOGETHER AGAINST DEAD PEOPLE. Now where’s my brother?” But he gets captured, not killed, then released and kills Euron (with one hand), gets back to Cersei only to have a roof collapse on the both of them? I really hope they (or at least Cersei somehow survived only to be killed off next week) because thats a huge let down of a death for both of them.

Arya is going to kill Dany. The white stallion was mentioned as the foreshadow of death (or some prophecy like that seasons ago) to Dany so it has to have some meaning other than just being a random leftover white horse from the Golden Company. And speaking of that has anyone ever not lived up to the hype as these guys? They build them up over 5 or so seasons and they basically get wiped out in two minutes. And I don’t think the elephants would have helped them.

Dany killing innocent children just goes against her entire character. I know she’s supposed to be mad and all that but even Vince McMahon wouldn’t have had her make that quick of a heel turn.

I still feel like there’s some heel turn with Axe’s girlfriend. The Dollar Bill stuff was gross.

I think Taylor targets her going forward as a way to destroy Axe. After losing the huge deal (and being humiliated by Bonnie) you can see Taylor have a bit of Mad Queen Dany in her. Especially since they made a point of having both Axe and his girlfriend on the board of the new company and I think that somehow ends up being a bad thing for Axe.

I really loved (in an unhealthy way) Chuck telling Wendy “Sorry babe, just couldn’t get it done” regarding her medical license when he basically got everything she asked him to get and turned it down because of his obsession with Jock. Or perhaps because he’s really secretly pissed at her which would be more than justified.

They got renewed for another season but I wonder what they’re going to do that they already haven’t. I’ve seen enough of Taylor vs Axe and Chuck vs Brian. Lets call them both a draw and move on. The show is at its best when its teams like Taylor and Axe against Brian and Chuck instead of all the infighting as its all over the place.

In fairness they got wiped out from a dragon attack from the rear. Not a bad way to fail.

It was indeed a bit of a mess of an episode.  Not the least of which Davos is on the front lines and is not a fighter yet he managed to survive the attack in a narrow street.

I got the feeling Chuck knows it wouldn’t take long to get everything he wants, that shit train is still parked right in Jock’s backyard.  It also seemed to be a bit personal with regard to the voting, like it’s something he actually believes in.  You could also tell that he wasn’t happy with Wendy’s hypocrisy in using his power.  And she didn’t exactly say if you do this I’ll start beating the shit out of you again.  And he’s still pissed about things like here saying yeah sure call in a pro and then being all angry that he actually did it.  Or the house.  And the pie.

Connerty is pretty funny, that scene with him eating the sandwich as Chuck announces his AG candidacy was fantastic.  He always has that befuddled/pissed off look on his face now.  Took me a second to put 2 and 2 together that he is now going in to therapy with the hardo that replaced Wendy for a few episodes.

Taylor and the investor relations party girl doesn’t work.

On Dany I would imagine it’s like her father, the Targaryens are mostly products of incest and eventually go mad.

Good to see that torching of Kings Landing included the destruction of the pyromancer weapons that were still there.  Again why didn’t Cersei just launch that stuff as soon as the armies were gathering?

The relative ease with which she destroyed the city highlights just how stupid they have been up to this point. They should not have lost a single soldier since arriving in Westeros. Amass an army out of range of arrows and catapults to force the other side into some sort of formation. Then fly in from behind with the dragons. No need to send in your own troops, no need to hit civilian areas.

I made that exact comment at one point regarding Davos. He is shown at the front of the line carrying a sword and I joked “has he ever actually even used his sword and why would he even be this close to the action?” It was the same logic as having Ghost be Jorah’s sidekick in the battle against the dead.

Not that he matters but where is Edmure Tully?  Wasn’t he being held by the Lannisters?

He’s hanging out in Dorn with the new Dornish prince and the Dorn army that is still, in theory, waiting to be picked up for the big battle by Yara and the Greyjoy fleet. They’ve sure missed a lot while waiting.

Any chance Cersei is still alive and survived that cave in?

If she (or he) survived that would be the icing on the cake in terms of how poorly the writing has been for the last few seasons.

Tormund DID survive The Wall falling down around/on him so I suppose anything is possible at this point. But it makes sense she’s dead. I’m all in on King Bran from this point forward.

Why would Bran need a Master of Whisperers? Can’t he see everything at once? Bron finally got his castle.

Edmure shows up, even Robyn Arryn or whatever his name is.  That broad from Dorne didn’t make it though Ellia or whatever.  Fight the Army of the Dead or Cersei?  Nah, but we’ll pick the King.  Christ what a bag of dicks Jon Snow gets handed.  Everything that guy went through and it’s off to the wall again. Who can enforce the bargain anyhow, the people that wanted him off to the wall left anyway.  So the Unsullied go off to some island to die out?  Did the Dothraki join them?  Tyrion is like the coordinator that can’t get the head coaching job, 3rd time as the hand.

I think Jon actually wanted to be sent north and since Bran knows everything he gave Jon what he wanted. When he and Tormund parted he told him he wished he was joining him in the north. What else would he be doing? He’s not staying down South. He doesn’t want to rule so I suppose he could wander around Winterfell fixing stuff but now he gets to explore the North with Ghost. Also how does Greyworm not just kill Jon after he kills Dany? What’s really stopping him at this point? (BTW this is another twist that makes no sense. In the books the Unsullied are the most disciplined warriors and never go “off script” like they did last week when they started attacking surrendering soldiers. That’s how they got the reputation for being able to hold places with minimal sized armies. And all of sudden Greyworm is grandfathered in and no longer needs to wear a helmet to battle, ala Craig MacTavish?).

The writers sort of gave away that ending when they were asked why Jon didn’t pet Ghost when they last parted and their excuse was they couldn’t afford the CGI and yet the following episode they show the most expensive set destruction in tv history on that same non-CGI budget but you couldn’t show Jon petting his dog?

I’ve read many places and it seems obvious that they had the ending that Martin wanted and then reverse engineered the story to get where they needed to go which really messed up the pacing and story telling. The end result was going to be the same (sorry everyone signing the petition for a redo…must be a lot of Chiefs and Saints fans that are also GoT fans) but how they got there would make a whole lot more sense. Once they got past the books you can tell they wanted to make an action show rather than a character show and didn’t really care about character logic or Starbucks cups showing up on camera.

Garbage. Steaming dump.  I was waiting for an autistic kid with a snow globe, or “I hope you had the time of your life” as the Starks gathered on the dock.

Dear internet: Someone please edit an Animal House “Where are they now?” ending to Game of Thrones. “Dothraki: Whereabouts Unknown”

Helluva job by Tormund rebuilding the wall in like a month.  But it doesn’t seem like they are even manning the wall, they’re basically becoming the wildlings and Jon is the king beyond the wall, a la Mance Rayder or whatever his name was.

Arya’s story made the least sense to me, I thought she’d go hang with the faceless men.  Were the Ironborn giving her a lift?

    Why didn’t Drogon barbecue Jon?

And they left water bottles in multiple scenes. Lol.

I get that Martin said here’s how it ends and they had to get there. But they did a poor and sloppy job of it.

The Wall came down at East Watch where Tormund was. The Night Watch were at Castle Black and that’s where Tormund was with the rest of the Wildlings hanging out waiting for winter to end as there would be no reason to go back to East Watch since it was destroyed. According to the books its 120 miles or so apart. Or a 2 minute walk at season 7/8 speed.

BTW Winterfell to Kings Landing is 1500 miles which just adds to the lack of logic in any of the travels the past few seasons.

Just saw they also left a water bottle next to Sam’s foot in the scene where they select Bran. Quality.

So, for those that watched both (I haven’t watched G.O.T. for more than 5 minutes since it’s been on), better or worse finale than the one that featured the guy with the Members Only jacket?

If worse, not worse than Dexter, hopefully. I think that one set a standard for shitty endings that can’t be topped.

I still love the Sopranos ending. The tension of Meadow trying to park the car to Journey blaring is great. Six Feet Under is still my favorite final scene. Dexter was god awful. This wasn’t horrible for a final episode but the entire season was a pile of crap because of how fast they chose to resolve everything that needed to be resolved and then they left so many questions unanswered that they spent so much time on earlier in the series. It was almost like they acknowledged they weren’t even trying anymore when they did the counsel scene with Tyrion setting up the chairs and then Bron just messing them up. That was almost like an improv scene that felt out of place when weighed with the gravity of everything going on.

They’ve also just made a lot of characters act and do things that these characters just wouldn’t do nor say and that’s bothered a lot of folks. It would be like Tony Soprano all of a sudden deciding he doesn’t want to be in mafia and decides to become a blackjack dealer in Atlantic City. Though they even DID try that with Tony but only for one episode as it was a dream sequence when he was in a coma and he had a dream about another life where he’s a glasses salesman (I think). These guys did 2-3 seasons with that in mind.

I guess Billions decided to hold off on their finale instead of competing with Thrones and Barry?  I never watch that stuff live anyhow.  So running it on Memorial Day weekend is a better move?

I was all in on the Army of the Dead and the ice dragon.  Once that ended I mostly didn’t care.  Still floors me that all these people that sat out the Battle of Winterfell had any kind of say in who became king/queen.

A show with this many characters and story arcs always has a hard time with the finale.  Hell some people still are furious they never covered what happened with the Russian in the woods on the Sopranos.  Jon should have just taken it, would have spared a shit ton of lives too.  I like how they were sitting there talking about the city and sewers and brothels.  Um, you have piles and piles of dead bodies.  Might need to get that handled.  Maybe hold a meet and greet with those that survived.  Also, what army do they have?  Sansa took the North troops back.  The Unsullied left.  Is it just the 6 kingdoms or whatever and the troops will respond when called?  Not a great defensive gameplan if so.

Still 3 more Billions episodes. Very odd they skipped last night but are showing it on the holiday weekend next week. They usually do the opposite but it might be GoT related?
