Hi, why out of how many (hundred?) people that are registered on this site do you twats always think it’s me?  I thought we’d had some decent discussions about the movie, and I agree it has issues.

I kind of feel sorry for DC comics fans. Having Zach Snyder adapt your favorite characters to screen must be like watching the girl you love dating a total douchebag asshole.

Saw an article yesterday saying with all the focus these movies give regarding the unintended consequences of trying to do good, if Zack Snyder directed a Stawberry Shortcake movie he’d focus mainly on diabetes.

I’d go see a Zach Snyder Strawberry Shortcake movie if he used the same cast from Sucker Punch.

I never understood the criticism he was too slavish to the source material for The Watchmen. The source material is awesome. And the opening credits thing he did is amazing.

Wish he was just a little as slavish to the whole 80 years of Superman not being a raging, selfish prick continuity.

Watchmen is the only movie of his that I like.

Anything else relies on his own ideas, which apparently suck.

“So we screwed up by making  BvS too dark? Ok, let’s take the next DCCU Movie that’s supposed to be dark and make it more fun.”

Yeah this might work out well, or not.

A major issue that critics had with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was that it was too dark and wasn’t “fun”. According to a new report from Birth.Movies.DeathSuicide Squad won’t have that problem.

Birth.Movies.Death’s source says that Warner Bros. is reshooting some of Suicide Squad right now. Big reshoots too. This is going to cost them tens of millions of dollars. The purpose of the reshoots are to add more humor and lightness to the movie.

Report: Warner Bros. is reshooting ‘Suicide Squad’ to make it more fun

    Wait, what?

    No shock

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Word of mouth might be kryptonite for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which fell a steep 68 percent in its second weekend in theaters according to comScore estimates Sunday. The superhero pic earned an estimated $52.4 million over the weekend, easily besting the modest new openers like “God’s Not Dead 2” and “Meet the Blacks.”

The Zack Snyder movie cost a reported $250 million to produce and around $150 million to market, and has earned an estimated $261.5 million to date.

I saw it.  What an abortive piece of shit. And I had little problems with Man of Steel other than the four hour fight sequence.

I don’t really think a lack of humor was this film’s problem, though. (Granted, I also loved Man of Steel, and that wasn’t exactly a yukfest either, so take my words with a grain of salt.) Rather, there were serious problems of coherence and world building, ones that left audiences scratching their heads when they weren’t simply annoyed.

Now they’re saying that BvS won’t crack a billion, something that the shitty Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean movies have done.

No matter how invested someone is in their “70% drop in the US is the fault of the critics and DC haters!” theory, don’t you have to start thinking maybe the movie just sucks when it has the same 70% drop in China?

If the reports that they’re adding more humor to Suicide Squad in response the critical reception of Batman v. Superman are true at all then the people making DC movies have no idea what they’re doing wrong, still.  It’s not that there’s one correct Superhero formula but that each different Superhero property should have a movie that fits the characters.  Batman can be dark and brooding, Superman should be optimistic and sunny, Suicide Squad should be a gleefully amoral black comedy. If Suicide Squad isn’t already like that, changing things at this late date isn’t going to go well.

Zach Snyder treats every character like they have the thirst for violence and morality of The Punisher.  He should be kept as far away from Superman as possible, and probably Batman as well since Snyder’s inventions for this movie makes him too bloodthirsty for any iteration of this character. Given his track record, I’d only let Snyder handle amoral antiheroes like Wolverine, Punisher, DC’s Secret Six and suicide squad, whatever Mark Millar wants to make like The Authority or Kickass, and such. Otherwise he just doesn’t understand the mindset of characters who are supposed to be somewhat noble in a way that works against the material.

Supposedly that rumor about the reshoots was wrong, one of the actors said they were doing some more action sequences and that the movie already has plenty of humor in it.

Another great part. Perry White has no interest in a ‘masked vigilante across the bay’ story, and threatens to demote Kent to cover sports. Is that how newspapers work?

Hard to decipher crazy, but she apprently feels that critics have had it out for the DC movies even before they came out, and give it negative reviews only because I guess they’re Marvel fans?

She’s not alone. Lot of wackadoo fans pretending they like the movie.

It’s a steaming pile of vomit, shit and snot from start to finish.  She can defend them all they want, but Snyder and the WB/DC film division have their heads up their ass, and that’s why they will lose this “tentpole” season, and not in a close race.  As I said, why not bring in Berlanti and company who obviously know the landscape, and have made TV hits out of the least desirable DC properties in?  If not to run the operation, then to work with Geoff Johns and others to storyboard these movies.  Because what they are putting out is just shit.

Maybe try making a movie in which every character isn’t acting wildly out of character?

Have someone in the office point out places where the characters aren’t acting like their entire 80 year history without shouting NEEEEERD!!! at them?

After Watchmen I thought that Zach Snyder was pretty close to making an ideal adaptation of pretty darn difficult source material, he just had to rein in some of his over the top excesses in the fight and sex scenes. Now it seems clear that he only has one conception of super heroes and the grim and gritty Watchmen happened to be close to it. Anything else he tries to turn into that whether it fits or not.

Saw that this had finally hit pay cable and showed my four year old the actual BvS fight.

Up until “Martha”, that part is really good. Too bad it’s surrounded by hours of dreck on either side of it.
