This truly is a media obsession.

The majority of people I know who pay attention to the game are ok with Amedola getting paid, because he has earned it, but are very much ok that he is not getting paid here, at this point in his career.

I imagine he will be reasonably productive in Miami and will catch some balls against the Patriots.

    Happens.

So the cash-strapped Globe sends two bodies to Cooperstown last weekend, even though no former Red Sox or Boston-born player was inducted this year. One of them is the Furry-Haired Dildo, who (I am positive) will go every year because he thinks he’s “one of them” because of his sham induction into that self-congratulatory Ford Frick* Award Sub-Annex Off the Main Hall of Fame Turn-Left-at-the-Shitter “Writers’ and Broadcasters’ ‘Wing’.”  Fitting they named it after Frick* since he’s most remembered for the asterisk he insisted should go after Maris’ name when he broke Ruth’s record in 1961.

In this case, the asterisk should be applied to the “wing” with the footnote: *Not real Hall of Famers, except for guys like Scully and Harwell and Red Smith …”  Perhaps Shank pays his own way. But I doubt it.

Of course, the other guy who went was Nick, who probably twisted himself into a pretzel wondering how he could advance the careers of Scott Boras’ clients by talking to men who retired from baseball five-plus years ago.

    Fatty’s back.

Micks and pricks Saturday night, sadly the sunset’s are coming a little bit earlier and a member of the Jets telling us about their being more than one way to win are all signs we’ve reached the end of July beginning of August.  (Via McButterpants)

“The Patriots’ standard isn’t the only standard. There’s more than one way to win, more than one way to build an organization.”  Darron Lee (Jets via Brohio State btw).

Peter, if only a device existed besides the Daily News where I could find the score of the Mets game? “Weep for Sports Journalism Dept.: The day after the New York Daily News laid off half its staff, the paper’s city edition, the final edition of paper, did not have a story of any kind about the New York Yankees (who lost at Tampa the previous night), and covered the Mets home game with an Associated Press story”

Ironhead, are you on the McButterpants mailing list?   “I’m thrilled to see Greg Bedard’s excellent all-Boston-sports ventureBoston Sports Journalreturn for year two. As you’d expect, Greg, who knows the Patriots very well, has been a big factor on a tough beat. Last week, he wrote that he expects an invisible punter, Corey Bojorquez, to supplant Ryan Allen. He said he thinks running back Mike Gillislee will be traded. And he said he thinks new defensive boss Brian Flores (not the coordinator—yet—but he’ll run the D) and his players will play with a serious edge in camp and tick off Tom Brady. Insightful stuff.”

Pete’s not in love with Pete the poodle anymore. “I think sometimes Pete Carroll says 58 words when seven would do.”

Where I live.     “Very nice touch by the Latrobe, Pa., Starbucks. Every time a person walked in the door Sunday morning, two gals behind the counter yelled, “Good morning!” Now there’s something you don’t hear on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.”

Expect to see a Nick column no later than next Sunday, identical to yesterday’s, except for two things:

    1.  Anyone who got traded in the last 3 days is crossed off.

    2.  The word ‘trade’ is replaced by ‘waiver’

Who says Peter King lacks self awareness? Who?!?

Regarding Amendola, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Obnoxious Boston Fan was one the people who hated Amendola signing with the Patriots, mocked him for being injury prone and then did a victory lap when he got hurt early in 2013. Now that Amendola’s gone, though, what the hell were the Patriots thinking?

    Fatty:

    7. I think this is the best trade Seahawks GM John Schneider could make for Thomas: acquiring a conditional third-round pick in 2020 from Dallas or Oakland for him. If Thomas makes 10 starts in 2018, Seattle gets the third. If he makes any less, Seattle gets a fourth. Just do it. It’ll make both sides look smart by November.

These are the same guys who bitch about the Garoppolo compensation incessantly. Different position, but Thomas has been a top three safety for years, and is on the right side of 30. Shouldn’t Fatty be the guy saying Thomas should fetch a mid-level first?

In Fatty’s mind Jimmy G has unlimited potential and will likely be the next coming of Joe Montana. He’s a can’t miss, future 1st ballot Hall of Fame lock. Thomas is good but not any where near Garopolo’s level.

Nothing against the 49’ers but I hope they start the season off with 5 strait losses.

How many HoFers sat on the bench until their age 27 season? Seems like it would be hard to build the numbers to make a case unless he plays well until 40 or runs off 4 straight superbowls.

Rodgers was 26 when he took over, anyone else? Blanda, Jurgensen, Stabler, Dawson, and a few others that I didn’t recognize per PFRef had 8 or less starts by 27.

Eh, just trade him.  Thomas wants a new contract, it’s not that he just wants out of Seattle.  Dallas or Oakland would have to want to give up a pick and sign him, no mention of cap space or upcoming free agents they might want to re-sign.  Pete’s not really a details person

Typical media narrative cycle. Stupid to ‘overpay’ for them when they signed them. Stupid not to ‘overpay’ pay him when when they left. Weird how the media is always right.

Then the media went saying Jon Lester was going to comeback as a free agent with a hometown discount contract…..you know the 4 year 10 Million per year starting point contract offer from Fenway Sports Group.

It’s been said by others before, but it bears repeating that not signing their new franchise quarterback before training camp opens is one of the most Jets things the Jets have ever done.

Warner, though he doesn’t really belong if you care about that sort of thing.

In similar news the Bears first rounder holding out because the Bears want to reclaim time lost due to suspension or ejection due to the new helmet rule from his guaranteed money.  This league blows.

You know no one in the league office considered developments like that when they came up with the new helmet rule.

So it’s that, it’s eating more of a raw-type of diet, where it’s actual foods, or compositions of foods that are five ingredients or less. It’s being smarter about what I’m eating, limiting my sugars.

“And my overall health has improved. I haven’t had the same type of knee pain since that season, and I’d had a chronic knee issue since I was in high school. So that’s obviously improved, increasing the information on my body. And then I think you get older and you actually enjoy working out more, because you know it’s directly tied to your longevity.”

Whoa whoa whoa.  This sounds an awful lot like dangerous quackery.   Of course Bert and company portray this is all fascinating ground breaking stuff and makes total sense.

    Tale of two narratives.

First ESPN (in a rare event of good reporting and good storytelling) from two days ago:

The stated facts of the curious Butler benching are this: Butler was sick with flu-like symptoms. Team doctors thought Butler could put other players at risk, so they cautiously had him stay behind one day when the team left for Minneapolis on Monday. Butler missed Super Bowl media night but arrived in time to attend the week’s practices. Butler, who played 98 percent of the Patriots’ defensive snaps during the 2017 season, admittedly fell behind a bit on the game plan and had a rough week in practice. He was rotating in practice with Eric Rowe, who started in place of him.

“This the biggest game of the year, so you gotta shoot your best gun or your best shot,” Butler said. “Preparation is the best way to win. And maybe they didn’t see 100 percent, mentally or physically, Malcolm Butler that they usually see.”

This is in sync with what Butler said months ago, and also in alignment with Belichick’s  “football decision”.

    The Globe, yesterday:

The question just keeps coming, and Malcolm Butler still has the same answer.

No, the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback does not know why Patriots coach Bill Belichick benched him at the Super Bowl in February.

Butler said Sunday he never got an explanation for being benched in the Super Bowl after starting 15 games during the regular season and two playoff games. He came off the bench to seal New England’s Super Bowl victory in 2015 with an interception as a rookie, and he started the Patriots’ overtime win over Atlanta for a second Super Bowl ring a year ago.

    “Coach’s decision,” Butler said.

I saw the Globe piece first, so was surprised to learn the “I wasn’t 100 percent focused” piece came a day earlier. The Globe piece  (“the same answer”) was wrong 24 hours before it went to print.

I can’t see the NFL making it til October before some high-profile/Prime-time match up is afflicted with a game changing bull-shit call involving this new Helmet rule. Some fucked up shit will gp down and odds are the helmet rule that we have on week one will be quite different from the helmet rule come week 17. Of course the league will deny it and fatty and his sycophants will back them up.

No time for that Coma, we had to get Steratore and the other retiring shitbag refs phoney baloney network jobs where they can carry Roger’s water.
