There was great buzz in the arena and a sprinkling of good signage when the Bruins came out for warmups before Saturday’s Game 2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In a town that’s gone soft on its teams — rarely is heard a disouraging word about the sacred Pats, the smug Sox, or the ever-glass-half-full Green Team — Bruins fans have retained their edge, dignity, and demands.” Shank Shaughnessy, Hockey Guy

I know Tomase won the tournament to crown the worst in the New England sports media, but Shaughnessy is “the worst,” emeritus. 90% of his colleagues do nothing but crap on the local teams, no matter how successful they are and Shank is pushing the idea that no one criticizes them. Whoever replaces him will unquestionably be worse, but, man, I can’t wait for him to go away.

Bruins fans have retained their edge, dignity, and demands.  So the fans of the other teams have no dignity?  And what demands?  It’s a sports team, they owe you nothing.  And if you  are a ‘demanding’ fan then shouldn’t the Patriots and Red Sox with a combined 10 championships since this century be the teams that you follow?  And the ‘ever glass half full Green Team’ because I’d rather be surrounded by glass half empty assholes?  He’s such a shitty writer.

Kadri suspended for the rest of this playoff series against the Bruins.

That could be 3 games or it could be 5 games.

Feels to me like the kind of ruling the NFL would give to a Giants or Steelers player.   Punishing the individual but not pushing the team long term.   If they make it past the Bruins, Kadri wouldn’t miss a single game of the next round.  If they game him 5 games flat and the Leafs win in 3, he would have to miss the first two games of the next series.   It’s a weird way to issue punishment on what their own press release calls something that was “not a hockey play” by a player with “multiple prior disciplinary issues.”

Kadri’s suspension is pathetic. NHL truly pussed out with a “variable suspension”.

He’s suspended 5 times. He could be suspended as few as 3 games for cross-checking DeBrusk in the neck.

Don’t forget Shank’s timely reference to “Hockey Krishnas”. So old that more than one Globe commenter thought it was new and clever.

In TEC’s Belichick column today he links to a 1995 article where Bill takes down Marv Levy pretty hard:  https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1995-10-08-1995281171-story.html

Can’t remember hearing him so candidly attack another football guy unless you count the “Ask Casserly he knows everything” comments.

    King:

Wilson is the second-highest-rated quarterback in history (100.3).

    Second highest rating=second highest rated?

Thought it was so cool that Wade’s good pals Chris Paul, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony all showed up in Brooklyn to support Wade to watch his last game.

Pro-rated, Davis is averaging 42 homers a year, and already has 10 this year—in mid-April.

    What does pro-rated mean here?

Also, you’ll be shocked to know that he thinks Woods is a great redemption story, especially since he was humbled and apologized to everyone.

I’d guess that when Fatty first learned of Tiger double bogeying waitresses in the parking lot the friction generated by his tsk-tsking could power a sawmill

I live for the day he gets busted and jailed for being a disgusting fucking creep. Because you just know he is.

This Tiger shit is beyond the pale.  The number of grown men telling me they cried when it was over and you aren’t human if you didn’t cry when he hugged his kid is unbelievable.  He’s a weirdo shitbag and all but I don’t care about any of that.  He won, that’s nice.  But cry about it?  Come the fucking hell on.  And the weird shit about how he hugged his dad after the first one and now he’s hugging his kid.  Pretty much every golfer ever hugs their wife and kids after they win.  His dad was setting up family franchises and was a more successful Marv Marinovich.  And the injuries/issues were mostly if not exclusively self inflicted, training like a Navy Seal and shit.  Again, you want to say yay Tiger won that’s fine, but the crying and this is the greatest moment in sports history stuff is bollix.  Had to Fontaine my older brother and oldest friend.

Pete must have been conflicted with finger wagging active players going to another player’s game.

If you want a nice parent/kid moment watch the Cale Makar goal last night.  He scores, team is psyched for him, his parents are at the game – he wasn’t sure if they were going to be there – and they are just genuinely happy for their kid.  Mom’s reaction is simply ‘wow, I can’t believe it!’

Tiger is a cool sports story with the 11 years between majors and the injuries etc over the years.

But he’s not the only guy to do that – just the best and most recent.

Know this, if Pete King thinks something is so cool, I can almost guarantee I’ll think the opposite.

When it’s fresh, the Dunkin’ Donuts dark roast blend is a very good cup of coffee. I realize I compliment other coffees more, but I had a medium dark roast the other day for $1.89, and it was good, and the value was great.
