He really is a hack, even though I kind of liked The Watchmen.

I just hope they can find someone competent for the Justice League movies.

Supposedly JL starts shooting in a few weeks, and Snyder is directing. Maybe Warner Brothers takes him off of Part 2?

I liked The Watchmen too. We’re the only ones though.

It’s not Snyder’s fault they was so much blue dong in it, the source material had it too.

I liked Watchmen and Man of Steel (sorry, Kevin). Watchmen was 65% and while rotten, Man of Steel still got more positive reviews than negative (56%). BvS is now at 30%. From a few fan reviews I’ve seen, it’s not great but nowhere near as bad as critics are saying. And as was mentioned before here, everyone says Eisenberg was way over the top as Luthor.

    Wait, what?

It was entertaining. There were parts that made me and the crew happy and there were parts that ranged from bewildering to down right angering BUT overall it didn’t suck near as bad as MoS. I would give it a 6.

Snyder’s sensitive side showed in a few spots. And when I write “sensitive” I don’t mean emotions on the screen but overcompensation for the negative response to MoS.

    Pluses:
Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter

    Minuses:
Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburn (I don’t blame him but his character was 1-dimensional and annoying)

I would give it a tepid recommendation. All the reviewers that are stating it is one long ramp up for JLA are full of crap. This is where having foreknowledge of what’s happening is bad. Sure, there is quite a bit of set up but this story stands on its own.

Pacing was a problem in my opinion. The first 90 minutes or so was set up and in spots glacially slow (plenty of opportunity to hit the bathroom!).

Obligatory “Rocky” training sequence for Affleck to show off his physique and show he is putting in the work. Crossfit is king.

I felt a little queasy watching Batman and Superman fighting.

I really enjoyed “300” and “Watchmen” so it isn’t like Snyder is incapable of making an entertaining movie.

Tried hard not to put anything even remotely spoiler-ish in here. The big reveals are worth the money to see it at a theater in my opinion.

Giving Man of Steel another shot.

Forgot about Clark having to wrestle the silly little robot that almost kills Lois and the steampunk statue Krypton for Dummies lesson he gets from Gladiator.

There’s a scene where Clark confronts a priest to ask if he should be Superman or not. Yuck.

If you pay careful attention, Snyder sneaks some Christ imagery into Man Of Steel.

Saw BvS earlier. Like Tommy, I give it a tepid recommendation. While it has its faults, it’s nowhere near as bad as the critics have said. One improvement over MOS is I think Adams/Cavill have better chemistry together this time around. Speaking of Adams, the bathtub scene was nice

Eisenberg was annoying, but he didn’t bother me as much as I thought he would based on what others have said. Even though I knew it was coming, the first appearance of Wonder Woman was a “geek out” moment for me.  Hopefully Snyder can learn from the mistakes in this movie and not repeat them in Justice League.

    Wait, what?

Saw it with the Mrs and her dad.  We all liked it quite a bit, had some pacing issues but on the whole as very enjoyable.  Very much looking forward to more Wonder Woman and then a most likely Darkseid heavy (just guessing) Justice League movie (or two).

Saw it with my son today.  It was much better than expected.  It was overly long but there were a couple of surprises that were cool.  I didn’t find Eisenberg to be that annoying, and Affleck was pretty good.  Gal Gadot was pretty easy on the eyes.  I think some of the critics have been overly harsh – it’s no worse than Age of Ultron.

    Saw it too.

Definitely some lowered expectations going on. The short Batman vs. Superman scene was actually pretty great. As was the part when Wonder Woman just shows up to help out. The big fight at the end though was just whatever.

And the first hour or so where nothing happens was more boring than awful.

The flashbacks/dream sequences are all like WTF is the point of this?

The desert sequence when Bruce Wayne was “dreaming” was a little confusing.  I think that was the Flash communicating with him from the future, and that was a future that must be prevented.  I assume the winged soldiers who swooped in during that scene were related to Darkseid.

Listen, I want DC to produce good movies.  I, if anything, have a DC bias.  But they aren’t.  They might be well served in mobilizing the Bertlani group in film production.  They seem to know what they are doing dealing with the castoffs of the DC universe.

Justice league starts filming in the middle of April. If there’s a major drop off at the box office next weekend it might make Warner Brothers think about that. Maybe delay JL until they see how Suicide Squad does?

“Save Martha…save the world”.  Why didn’t Superman swoop in and save moms as soon as Batman’s man-servant found her?  Wait, he can hear his beloved Lois Lane trapped under water and rubble but not his mother?

Newscaster: “Downtown Metropolis (or was it Oakland/Gotham?) is nearly deserted now that rush hour is over.”  Cut the shit you Trump-ian over sensitive cvnt.  Then again, I could picture WB making the decision to show that Superman isn’t killing 30k innocents this go around.

There were 3.5 too many dream sequences. The Ezra Miller from the future one just made it even worse;  a dream sequence inside a dream sequence.  Very “Inception” of Snyder.  I wonder if Snyder was actively blowing the Executive Producer when he came up with that one?

Lex Luthor creating an unstoppable killing machine because…

I still think it was a fairly entertaining movie even with the warts.

MoS was on opposite the NC game last night.  I was flipping back and forth until the end of the Smallville fight sequence.  Martha Kent should change her name and move to the Fortress of Solitude.

That’s where they should have had Aqua Man show up.

How does Lois even know they need the spear back? It’s not like she gets a text or anything.

I leaned over to my daughter and said “Aquaman will save her”…only to have the lovestruck alien do it AGAIN.  At what point is the fate of the planet more important than your girlfriend?  “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one” went through my head.  Mr. Spock would be less than impressed.

Good point on the spear but she is a fairly intelligent reporter and knew what it was doing to Clark so that didn’t bother me as much as how she knew where Batman threw it.  Intelligent or not; she sussed that out without any input which is complete bullshit.

    I love this paragraph.

The Boss is currently sporting around a 15 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. If this were the same movie starring Adam Sandler, it’d be firmly at 0 percent. It may sound like a double standard, but it’s not, exactly. Dick-and-fart movies have been poked, prodded, and completely exhausted of all their utility. There just aren’t any good dick jokes left. The raunchy female-led comedy, however, still remains somewhat unique (though, thanks to McCarthy, it’s quickly losing its novelty). There is still some life left in boob-and-vagina jokes. Even the lazy ones haven’t been completely exhausted, and that’s really the only thing that makes The Boss watchable: One never knows what McCarthy is going to say about her cootch or Kristen Bell’s boobs. There still remains a small element of surprise.

This was good. I can see both sides. I’m obsessed with minutiae (shut it!) but enjoy the fictionalization of history to a great extent that I can’t make a compelling argument against taking liberties with a fictional world. Just try not to suck I guess?
