Yeah, I think they were being generous.

The good news is they realize they’ve been doing it wrong (really they got lucky with Nolan), and they’re taking steps to fix it.

Being a member of a “nerd” FB group, I’ve come to find out DC fanboys rival the Boston sports media for thin skinned-ness and hypersensitivity. They are like Kevin’s crazy twitter chick and think BvS is a “masterpiece”.   :wall:   :weei:

Saw cap in IMAX. So good the 2nd time

And the Sam/Bucky reaction to the kiss got an even bigger laugh at 2nd viewing.

Shows what continuity can do. Same writers for all 3 Cap movies. Perfect

I saw it again yesterday afternoon. The theater at the loop in Methuen has a bar in it. Had a few beers before and after the movie. The bartender carded me, which I thought was strange but he said they have to card everyone as a condition of getting their liquor license.

    Wait, what?

X-Men: Apocalypse wasn’t bad.  It wasn’t great.  It was decent.  Some really good scenes but overall some of the acting was flat.

    Pluses:

    Quicksilver

A 10-min scene in a secret military base in a snowy, mountainous area

Overall Singer keeps the X-Men continuity in check for the most part

Tepid approval: 6 out of 10

Spent the first 90 minutes of the X-Men movie thinking, “this isn’t so bad.”

Then the last 40 is so long and tedious. Hey Sansa, want to get up off your ass and help before we’re all dead?

Are we sure that was Oscar Isaac under there? Could have been anybody. What a fucking waste of our best actor.

Jennifer Lawrence must have been like, look, I’ll do one or two days tops under the blue shit.

EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Lawrence is attaching herself to Adam McKay’s drama about medical company Theranos and its 32-year-old founder Elizabeth Holmes. Theranos is the blood-testing startup that once had Silicon Valley investors salivating over its commercial potential with a $9 billion valuation as recently as two years ago

Peggy Carter agrees with me. It’s creepy to kiss your ex-girlfriends great niece.

Like most human beings who saw Captain America: Civil War, Hayley Atwell was less than thrilled with that super awkward kiss between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his nominal love interest Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), great-niece of Cap’s former flame Peggy Carter. Atwell has some authority on the matter, given that she played Peggy in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and on her own TV show—at least before she was killed off in one and cancelled on the other. When asked during a recent Dallas Comic Con how Peggy would’ve reacted to the kiss, Atwell explained:

Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like “no.” And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well.

IGN is careful to note Atwell was smiling as she ribbed the movie, but she went on to add:

I just feel that, you know—I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, “don’t touch that.” You can’t tap that!

Ok, so Fast & Furious 8 now has the normal cast, Kurt Russel, Charlize Theron and…..Helen Mirren?

I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant. I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8. But that’s for the fun of it. So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies.

So you are confirmed to be in ‘Fast 8’?

    Yes, I am.

Not as bad as the trailers make it look seems to be the consensus.

But the backlash online of people wishing it was terrible because it has girls in it is weird. That being said, I still hope a ghost flies up Wiig’s vagina.

    That initial trailer killed them.

The international trailer that came out shortly thereafter was much better.  I’m still not going to see it.  Not because of an all female cast, I just am not into Ghostbusters anymore.  I think that’s tied to a very specific time period for me.

    Sorkin question.

Had on “A Few Good Men” last night, and when they got to the “Airmen Cecil O’Malley and Anthony Rodriguez” part, something dawned on me that stupidly never occurred to me before. We may have discussed this in the pre-Wordpress BSMW days, but since that board is toast, I’m going to pretend this is an original thought:

What was the point of the whole “first flight off the base” story, other than to create some dramatic tension catching Jessep in a lie, as well as showing Jessep’s considerable cachet in “being able to make a whole plane disappear”?

Markinson said he signed the transfer orders the morning Kaffee and Co. arrived in Cuba. It was that very morning that Jessep first mentioned Santiago was going to be on the “first flight out of the base” the next morning. What turns the “first flight out” business into this big plot point was Markinson turning up and telling Kaffee the first flight was at 11 the night before. This was huge in the whole narrative: Jessep lied! Worse, he lied and covered it up!

But think about what happened to create this scenario. If Jessep’s after-the-fact cover story was that Santiago was to be transferred pronto, what fucking difference did it make which next-day flight he was going to take? Isn’t “We were transferring him the next day” just as good as “He was to be transferred on the very first flight”?

Following the scenario further, Jessep says the 6 am flight was the first one out, realizes he fucked up and could be caught in a lie, and then goes about this elaborate scheme to scrub the flightbooks from both Guantanamo and Edwards. Jesus, why go through all that trouble, and create all those potential loose ends (such as the faux threat Airmen O’Malley and Rodriguez represented)? Don’t do a fucking thing, then if Kaffee realizes there was an earlier flight, say, “I was in error; there was an earlier flight, but we still had Santiago scheduled for the 6 a.m. flight.” End of crisis.

I realize I’m overthinking a minor detail contrived only to move the plot forward, but it bugged me. It also made me realize if/when Sorkin is tapped to write “Deflategate, the Movie”, Brady’s phone is totally going to be his new Airmen O’Malley and Rodriguez.

They would have if they had access to information like we do now.  Most people are too stupid to be trusted with everything we know now.  We were always waiting to be this giant bubbling cauldron of pussies, we just needed the internet to stir the brew.

With all due respect to BBtL, A Few Good Men was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Over-written; over-acted; over-wrought. I laughed out loud at the courtroom scenes. Think about this for a moment: Demi Moore plays a hard-bitten Navy lawyer. Seriously. Dissecting plot structure in that movie is like dissecting plot structure in Happy Gilmore.
