Just curious to see how out of touch I may be. Friends and I were going to go on the Boston Harbor Cruise that featured Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Tickets online were $25, but with a $26.75 Service Fee to deliver them electronically. That seemed outrageous, so we decided to get them at the boat’s B.O. at 6pm day of the show. But when we were at the B.O. — at 6:01 — we were informed the show/cruise was all sold out. Is there that big a fan base for PPPP? I never heard of them until 3 weeks ago.September 25, 2015 at 12:27 pm #8052October 1, 2015 at 9:42 pm #9207
Pumped and jacked for the Frank Turner show tonight.
Had to change plans, and didn’t make either show. How was it?
I didn’t love his new one. It’s good, but not great.October 30, 2015 at 3:06 pm #15371November 17, 2015 at 2:35 pm #18777November 25, 2015 at 10:42 am #20529
I’m not a fan of Trey’s voice at all. I think guitar wise the guy is phenomenal and I like Phish’s jams in general, but the voice to me is just shit.
John Mayer is one of those guys that based on his pop music and overall douchiness you would never know can absolutely melt your face off on the guitar. About 10 years ago I think I got roped in – meaning I was working some broad – to seeing Mayer but thank Christ it was the John Mayer Trio so they played some great blues that was interspersed with his gay pop crap. Guy was absurd when he was just playing the ax and I never would have known. Later I caught something on Palladia or whatever it was before it was Palladia with Mayer and John Lee Hooker. Out of hand. He tore it up. Reminded me a lot of SRV with the voice too. The gay pop crap is really hard to overlook, and the douchebag air about him, but I guess he used those lame songs to bed all those broads. Can’t fault him for that I guess.
Another one of those guys you would never know based on pop stuff that rips it up is Prince.November 25, 2015 at 12:01 pm #20565
We are on the same page on the Trey singing thing. The whole Let Trey Sing thing was ridiculous. Meanwhile, the only guy that can halfway sing in the July lineup, Hornsby, barely did so
best of Fare Thee Well is great. A real upgrade from the soundboards I had. You can hear the other (non guitar) instruments. Hornsby and Jeff Chimente are just putting on a masterclass. The China Cat/INYR and Scarlet/Fire are grade A
If you like Rush R40 is amazing. Classics akimbo and deep deep cuts. Amazing recording, they take their sound and mixing as seriously as any band.November 25, 2015 at 12:49 pm #20575
Hornsby did some good vocals on Jack Straw when he covered the Fall ’90 tour after Brent OD’d. They would have been better off talking him into staying rather than bringing on that coked up fag Welnick. But that likely had a lot to do with it, they weren’t going to let him sing much. They tried to jazz up a version of Long Valley Road for him but it blew.
I’ll have to listen to those Mayer shows out of curiosity. I wouldn’t think his voice would necessarily be a good match but who knows. Trey was the slam dunk choice as far as the crowds for those shows were concerned. Would they have sold out Soldier/Levi with Mayer? I’d bet not. They can play the indoor arena shows with him basically fronting Ratdog.November 25, 2015 at 12:52 pm #20577November 25, 2015 at 1:49 pm #20587November 25, 2015 at 2:25 pm #20600
I recall that came out more afterward now that you mention it, but at the same time they passed their peak a decade plus before he joined so what the hell did he expect, they were known at that point to have off nights and Jerry’s voice was to the point they’d do more Weir songs on some nights and he’d play the ever loving shit out of his guitar. And if you want go play Jacob’s Pillow for the wine and cheese crowd when GD wasn’t touring.January 14, 2016 at 8:24 pm #30594
Boston Calling released the lineup for the May shows. It can be best described as “underwhelming”. The headliners are Sia, Robyn, and Disclosure. Other acts include Sufjan Stevens (I like him, but IIRC not a board favorite), Courtney Barrett (not bad but a little overrated, and very reminiscent of the slew of early 90s female solo acts), Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Janelle Monae. Haim and Vince Staples are a couple of other acts some may be familiar with.January 21, 2016 at 11:36 pm #32352January 28, 2016 at 10:54 am #34147January 28, 2016 at 6:32 pm #34247
<p style=”text-align: center;”>Pearl jam at Fenway! Anyone going? Concerts suck at Fenway but since PJ is my favorite band I have to go. Hopefully concert #10 and 11 for me.</p>
Im hoping to go. Really enjoyed Foo Fighters at Fenway. My oldest daughter and I love PJ (her first concert at only 13 years old was PJ in Worcester)January 29, 2016 at 9:38 am #34289January 29, 2016 at 7:59 pm #34449
New Tedeschi Trucks Album is tits.

Who’s going Thursday? Haven’t seen any Jungleland in the setlists yet. Thunder Road seems pretty nightly. Will be cool to see Brilliant Disguise seems to be playing regularly. Haven’t seen much if anything live off Tunnel of Love. Meeting Across The River would be cool that’s one I have never caught. Some of the lesser played live stuff off The River will be great like Drive All Night, Wreck On The Highway and Stolen Car.
BTW if anyone has the new Ties That Bind album there is an absolutely terrific old outtake contained called Stray Bullet.

Looks like all that stuff between Wreck and end of the first set has been great. I’m fine with any of Candy’s Room, Human Touch, Brilliant Disguise, or any of the uptempo Rising stuff.
I saw Meeting once, it was awesome. Best Bruce show I’ve been to I think.

That looks like a good show. I assume he played Ghost of Tom Joad the old way? I think the heavier version came when Morello got involved (btw Morello isn’t on this tour is he?)
Patti is back. Funny I don’t think he’s been playing Tenth Avenue at all though I could have missed it. Thought it was a pretty nightly thing, though with the limited non-River stuff I’d prefer to see something less played anyways.February 2, 2016 at 1:32 pm #34838
BTW for those of you interested here is the Stray Bullet song I mentioned. I realize Bruce is something of a board joke here, but I’m stil a fan. 😆 Then again, I still like the Red Sox too.
Inconceivable to me this was left off The River and something like I’m A Rocker or Crush On You was left on:February 2, 2016 at 1:50 pm #34842

Great, detailed interview with Tedeschi & Trucks on Radio.com.
I love the clip towards the bottom of them on stage with BB. He’s so clearly in awe of the both of them, which must be pretty cool.February 5, 2016 at 10:22 am #35524February 5, 2016 at 10:36 am #35527

Our library had a book sale the other day, and they were selling CDs for a buck. Loaded up on a wide variety, but one of the things I got that I had never heard was the Spaghetti Incident. What a clusterfuck.
Sounds like they are talking about a tour after Coachella, which sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.March 9, 2016 at 3:05 pm #40884March 9, 2016 at 3:20 pm #40897
It’s on Broadway (parallel w/Atwells ave, you’d take the Atwells Ave exit off 95 if you were coming from 95 south) It was a porn theatre for a good long while, but reinvented the last 15 years or so. It’s a great place- it’s a classic old theatre from the 1920’s that had to do what it had to to survive. 😆 There’s the main stage and a smaller upstairs room. Before they transitioned over to being legit, they tested the waters by having small shows upstairs while downstairs was still doing porn. I lived for years in that neighborhood and went to a lot of those shows- always fun to see the hipsters and the Gameres walk by each other in the lobby.
When we were kids we used to call their number to hear what was coming up- the voice on the message was a smooth brahmin-esque baritone that would say things like “Thank you for calling the Columbus Theatre for the finest in quality adult featurrrres…tonight we are showing On Golden Blonde at 7 and Prizzi’s In Her at 9…the Columbus Theatre is located…” 😆
decent pizza place right across the street too, plus Julians a block down if you’re getting dinnerMarch 9, 2016 at 3:29 pm #40899
I swear when I bought the tix it was originally supposed to be at The Met in Pawtucket. Sometime between now and then it moved there.
It’s a general admission show, but the place has seats? Not sure how that works.
My wife went to PC, and always drags me to Caserta’s before Friars hockey games, so I was Mage thinking of going there first since I know where it is.
