I guess this isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard.

Looks like GnR added a 2nd show in Foxborough. Added shows in a few other cities too.

And speaking of Axl singing with AC/DC, someone on facebook posted a picture of some meme saying like “I’d rather listen to a cat getting strangled than listen to Axl singing AC/DC” or something along that line. I felt like responding “Have you heard Brian Johnson sing during the past 20-25 years?”

    Wait, what?

I’m totally in the bag for Springsteen, but I found Chris Stapleton’s tribute much more interesting.

That Stapleton Nothing Compares 2 U was top notch.  David Gilmour did a few bars of Purple Rain during Comfortably Numb the other night as well

Our boy howzie really bagging on Springsteens Purple Rain cover (which I thought was perfectly fine) last night, and then asking what’s the big deal about Prince.

I thought that was weird, and then realized it probably has something to do with Bruce cancelling North Carolina.

I think howzie is big on promoting the fact that he doesn’t hate the trannies and the gays and doesn’t care about bathroom laws. I think he’s just a miserable cunt.

    Bruce’s Purple Rain was solid.

It’s a perfectly cromulent cover.  Credit to him for picking a song largely in his vocal range.

I may have posted something about this on the old board, but I just found it on the internet after losing the podcast version of it on iTunes.

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals in Dublin. They play almost 30 songs.

    Come back, Regular Brian.

    My agenda is truth.

If you like Ryan Adams and The Cardinals Google them with in Dublin. The Internet Archive has a great show of theirs. After I lost the podcast of it on iTunes I haven’t been able to find since today.

    Sorry, can’t post links.

Sprigsteen fans… Atlantic City which is better the one on the Nebraska recording or when he plays live?  I am one who likes the recording. Then with Prove It All Night I like that one live.

No kidding. Axl isn’t great but he’s better than Johnson has been for the better part of the past 20 years.

Also, the GnR tickets for July 19 came in the mail yesterday.

:lol:Go wherever you want.  Nostalgia acts are a particular bugaboo of mine (working at the club I saw plenty of overpriced crap) but I’m not immune- Dinosaur Jr. July 14th.  Ticket won’t be in the three or four digits though ;-)

I’ll be at the show on the 14th as well. Going mainly for Jane’s, though.

Edit – different show maybe? I think Jane’s with Dinosaur Jr. is on the 19th.

My mistake. I had the date wrong. Jane’s Addiction, Dinosaur Jr. and Living Color are playing in Boston on the 19th.

But how’s that for a nostalgia line-up? Especially on the heels of the Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair show.

20 year old me might approve of at least some part of where I ended up.

I’m hitting the old guy trifecta this summer.  3 weeks in a row of Warren Haynes playing the Dead with the BSO, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Dead and Company at Fenway.

You going to the Mendon Drive In this weekend to catch the showing of the Dead at Sullivan Stadium in 1989? Only $25 per person and great beer and wine available.

I don’t know…my buddy and I had discussed it…and then never got back to it.  Probably not, my parents gave me the entire July 1978 Betty Cantor soundboards for my birthday, and they are supposed to arrive Friday.  Going deep into 78

Going deep into 78 sounds like a John Dennis fantasy during spring training.

Which TTB show are you going to? Marshfield? I’m going to the one in Gilford, NH.

I would say that song got the best response. I don’t know why, but I always dug that band. I like a song called Then Came The Last Days Of May which dates to their first album. They played it. Sounded great.

Yes.  They are playing the same festival/venues as The Replacements a couple of years ago, just Chicago and Denver.

After more than three decades of estrangement, Riot Fest has done the impossible and gotten the godfathers of horror-punk, The Misfits, back together. Riot Fest has confirmed that founding member Glenn Danzig, bassist Jerry Only, and the band’s long-time guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein  will play together at both the Denver (Sept. 2-4) and Chicago (Sept. 14-16) versions of the festival under the name The Original Misfits.

I have a question that I’ve wanted to ask for a while. I know that Jason Isbell is a board favorite, but I’ve always been loath to purchase any of his records. His old band the Drive-By Truckers were up there with Deerhunter in the “bands I should like a lot more than I actually do” category. I own both Decoration Day and The Dirty South, and I don’t listen to them a lot. Is Jason Isbell’s solo stuff better on the whole? If so, where should I dip my feet. I’ll hang up and listen.

Isbell only got one or two songs per album with the DBTs. His records are much more softer and acoustic. Not a lot of crossover, really.

Get Southeastern and if you like it, get the latest one. I like Here We Rest, too. He tries a lot of different musical styles on that one. His first two albums are almost entirely skippable, other than Dress Blues, which might be my favorite song of his.

If you’re looking for another DBT record to try, get Brighter Than Creation’s Dark. That ones a bit bloated, but still my favorite. Skip all the Shona Tucker songs.

This could also go in the online media thread, but there’s a pretty good interview with Frank Turner on the Turned Out a Punk podcast (<- link). The TAOP host can be a bit of a nerd, but he avoids most of it in this one. Not a bad way to kill an hour.

Wife:  I was thinking of taking the boys up to Minnesota before I start my new job (school let out yesterday), thinking of leaving Friday.

Me:  Sounds good, a little short notice for me to go along (go on phone looking for My Morning Jacket tickets, score singles at Red Rocks for the 28th and 29th.  Fist pump).

    Nice.

This week the San Francisco Zoo welcomed a trio of new residents in the form of three newly acquired Mexican wolves. The zoo honored three late musicians – Jerry Garcia, Prince and David Bowie – in naming the three brothers.

I assume the Garcia is because it’s San Fran, but also because of his guitar Wolf.
