If you’re looking for a Serial rip off, you could do worse than Finding Tammy Jo, about a Jane Doe case outside Rochester in the late 70s.  Episodes are like 10-12 minutes.

Also, my cousin’s girlfriend is involved somehow in the production.  She does features editing for the local paper.

Listening to the Dana Gould Hour, and Dana went out and bought:

THAT’S a depressive’s mid life crisis.  And I am so jealous.

Sturgill Simpson was on Maron’s podcast. It’s from May 15. Haven’t listened yet.

Alison Rosen is still not funny.

Gilbert and Tony Orlando singing Tie A Yellow Ribbon might be my favorite new thing.

Upon further reflection, the most amazing thing about the Boston Marathon Dollop episode is that some people are in shape enough to have an argument about relationships while in the middle of running a fucking marathon.

Finally Stone Cold has a guest I’m interested in: Robbie Knievel.

Then it turns out that his bitterness towards his father isn’t as strong as I had hoped, so it was just okay.

God help me, but I haven’t found a single episode of Minihane’s podcast I haven’t found informative and enjoyable.  (Well, Sheppard did whine way too friggin much)

Curran, Jackie, and Gorman were all really good, especially the last 2 since I’m quite a Celtics neophyte.

The Sheppard one was worth it just for the fact that for seven months he drove to Ordway’s house and essentially didn’t get paid.

100%. I felt bad for Pete more than mocked him. I mean these guys have no skills other than what they do (or did) so i’d be doing the same pathetic dog and pony show hoping the show succeeds.

Holding my nose, it’s the one podcast i look forward to right now. I really cannot wait for the Borges, Andelman, Bob Lobel ones.

Peter King’s voice might be the worst on radio. You cannot go more than 8 minutes listening to him. That low level croak in his voice is awful.

Sheppard saying that Ordway thought he was going to snap his fingers and watch the advertisers come running was worth the hour investment of my time.

Apparently the sales weasels WERE doing something all that time after all.

I think King’s now enemy number one in my book, simply for being a jackass coupled with holding a position of considerable influence on what the conventional wisdom will become on a story. I’ve listened to most of the Minihane podcasts, and enjoyed the ones I listened to with the exception of Fatty.

The other guests, sure it doesn’t take long to regarner the hatred (like when Shanks says of KPD, “He’s the best, he’s the best” or calling Judge Berman a fanboy), but every now and then they say something interesting (like Jackie talking about what a weaselly little cunt Jim Paxson was) or something you agree with (like Shank saying Kraft’s the neediest sports figure he’s ever met).

A running theme with all the Globies Kirk interviewed is the self-entitlement. While their unfettered access (especially Ryan) is what made them so much more interesting to read back in the day, they all act like as Globe sports, they’re supposed to be treated like kings. Like it’s their prose that made the players, rather than the players making them. It really is no wonder the Globe takes such exception to New Media; they remember when they were pretty much the only game in town, and it irks them no end that they have to fight what’s in their mind the lesser media, and sitting next them way above courtside no less. I carry the same attitude as Shank toward Thornton’s weakass fanboy bit, but I love that his existence on EEI bothers Shank so much.

…and just like that, I eat my words.  Minihane’s podcast with Artie Lange sucked.  Same old stories, a little good semi Stern bashing, and a plug for his $ pod.

Artie was funny, but I’m pretty sure Kirk would have blown him if he asked.

Not sure why Artie is still so deferential to Stern. He refuses to answer his calls for years?

At one point I was convinced I had listened to the episode before. He repeats stories almost word for word.

The Sheppard one was worth it just for the fact that for seven months he drove to Ordway’s house and essentially didn’t get paid.

Listening to Sheppard one now. Wow, he’s completely delusional in what his actual skills are and what he believed he brought to The Big Show (“People told me I was the straw that stirred the drink”).  And even after it’s plainly clear to the rest of us that neither EEI nor 98.5 want any part of him, he’s still this pompous dickbag thinking he’s a commodity to be desired.

I understand the urge to feel sorry for him, because he is the ultimate sad sack constantly failing and not understanding the forces that keep him down. Of course, those forces were that he was an unintelligent, quick-tempered, profane, illiterate, stammering flash guy who thought he was the talent. Gee, such a shock people thought he might not be good for radio. Plus he was always the first one to throw the “in your mother’s basement” or “flipping burgers” shots at callers. His downfall was karmic justice.

At the tail end of the podcast, Pete and Kirk are laying odds on whether the podcast will actually air, the premise being Pete’s such a bomb-thrower there’s no way thin-skinned EEI would allow it to air. My theory is EEI was thrilled to air it, because it makes Pete sound exactly like the loser they think he is.

I was just looking at Patreon, and the Dollop is bringing in $5,300 a month.  I know the research and writing takes a lot of time, but that’s a pretty good haul.
