So she wasn’t at his little Jedi school? What the hell?

The math doesn’t work. Bloodline takes place like six years before TFA, and Rey was born in 15 ABY. In her force vision she is a very young (six? seven?) girl while being abandoned on Jakku. Kylo is STILL at the academy in the book, so Rey was thirteen.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t know her, could be asking if she knows herself. It would fit if this is paralleling Luke meeting Yoda in V (war doesn’t make one great etc…) and then getting the Vader reveal in the dark side cave.

There was another story that the whole sequence was a joke. After he says “who are you?”, she supposedly ignites the lightsaber and starts dancing around with it.

I don’t think that “who are you?” even if it was immediately when she got there would preclude parentage but given the context in the above (in a hut) it seems it’s more rhetorical, perhaps.

My first thought on “Who are you?” … there’s some serious Force altering shit going on here.  Why can’t he read her mind?  Why can he not foresee her arrival? It also tosses out the idea that this was part of some master plan Luke put together.  It doesn’t explain how R2 awoke without prompting though.

To Marty’s point… it’s a lot more likely they aren’t breaking out any plot points in a teaser trailer this early.  Rather they are simply showing us the question we’ve all been asking since VII.

R2’s waking up was explained by JJ. There’s no fancy Luke programming involved.

I’m of the mind Luke has stopped using the force for some reason.

It would restore my faith in Luke if he doesn’t know he had a kid that he abandoned on a desert planet to be as shitty a dad as his was.

    Puppet Forceghosting?

At SXSW, Frank Oz candidly answered questions about the latest round of Muppets; he was not a fan of the ABC version, and was a bit more appreciative of Muppets Most Wanted, the latest Muppets Disney movie: “I think there were some very funny things individually. And the purity of certain characters stayed.” But when asked about the possibility of Yoda showing up in a future Star Wars installment, Oz clammed right up:

I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.

Time for the Jedi to end was pretty cool.

So I think it basically aligns with the conventional wisdom in that Luke has had some sort of disillusionment and whatever the reasons for his initial exile/walkabout/search for the first Jedi Temple were, the truth he realized is that at the very least the Jedi (and probably the Sith/other Force users) constant manipulation of the Force has led to negative consequences.

So does Luke fuck up the other Knights of Ren in a flashback? And possibly lets Kylo go after de-masking him?

I wonder if it also means he thinks you can’t just be light, that you have to actually balance the light and the dark sides and he wants to start an order based on that.

And they will just cop out with The New Jedi Order as Snoke already predicted.

This looks like the popular theory going around the inta-web

    Seriously.

The Rebels cartoon has some sort of giant bull-like creature that supposedly uses both sides of the Force. Some real mystical greaseball shit.

Just cut each other up with laser swords please.

    “serenity, yet peace”

Those aren’t opposites! Why are they saying “yet”

Is Kevin Garnett the publicist on this?

A previous version of this article stated that the crew of the Han Solo spinoff broke into applause following the announcement of Ron Howard as director. In fact, these sources say the applause came at the end of the meeting in which the departure of Lord and Miller was announced and they were informed a new director would be arriving. These sources say the mood at the meeting was somber but there was applause “in support of the movie” (not in support of Lord and Miller’s departure).

Luke is Yoda, Kylo is Darth, Snoke is the emperor, Rey is Luke.  If it follows  that path again, I’ll be a bit disappointed. Hoping for some surprises.

Yoda is the Old Man, Vader is Eli Wallach, Luke is Yul Brenner, Han is Brad Dexter. I wouldn’t hold out much hope for inventing new plot dynamics. Johnson is so clever that it won’t matter.
